Milqtoast Comics is an independent comic label based in Houston, Texas, USA, and is the brainchild of writer/artist Jarrod L Perez. He started self-publishing his comics in 2001, with hand-xeroxed & stapled zines. As he kept making zines, his comic stories kept getting longer and longer, so much so they began to break out of the zine format. After 9 zines had been completed, Perez decided to step his game up and produce perfect-bound comic books, and Screw Comics! was born. Finally, he had a new format where his wacky stories could stretch out and breathe without the limitations of the page count of zines.
But while Perez was focused on creating physical books the world puttered along and digital comics became a thing. Untethered to computers people could now read anything and everything they want to on their phone or tablet.
Sure, Perez made his comics available in digital formats like PDF and CBZ, but people still found these files perplexing and off-putting. Only computer nerds would know what to do with these files. He wants to attract more casual readers, not just appeal to those who live in the format. After much research he found he could “reformat” his comics panel by panel for to make them easy to read right on your phone. Easier still you can access the comics by simply going to a website, and here you are! Don’t forget to bookmark this site so you can come back easily.
How to Use this Site:
It’s really easy. Just pick a story, either through Collections or Characters.
If you’re on a laptop or desktop computer the pages will be in their original format, how they look in print. If you’re on your phone you will get the formatted comics, and all you have to do is keep scrolling down. The panels are snipped, zoomed for emphasis so you don’t have to zoom or swipe, everything is there in that instance. EASY to READ! That’s how it should be.
